NADAL NEEDS TO DO SOME SOUL SEARCHING

Rafa's 2016 campaign has featured final round appearances in two of the four tournaments he has played. But the fact remains that he has lost twice this season and three consecutive times altogether against a formidable rival who seems to have finally figured out at 35 what is required to topple the commendable Spaniard. I hope I am wrong, but Nadal at 30 may have moved permanently past his prime. Conversely, regardless of what happens at Indian Wells from this juncture on, Roger Federer is revitalized. His enduring commitment to attaining more high honors is not only extraordinary but also evidence that Federer is a unique figure in the history of a game he cherishes.

What does Roger think after Kyrgios withdrawal

"I told Tommy [Haas, Tournament Director], when he told me in the locker room, that whatever he needs, I'm happy to do," said Federer. “If there was going to be people on court, I was happy to explain myself. Nick couldn't be here because he was ill, otherwise we'd be playing a match right now.
"I was actually really looking forward to the match. That's just how tennis goes. It's a pity, but I'm really happy with my time in Indian Wells and hopefully I'm going to play a good match tomorrow."

What did Federer's father tell him after defeating Nadal in 4th round in Indian Well 2017?

“First thing he told me after the match was 'Great match, great backhands,” said Federer, speaking to Tennis Channel. "He's basically been the first guy to tell me, ‘Hit the backhand, damn it! Don't fall back and slice all the time."

“I think all my coaches throughout my career have told me to go more for the backhand, but I used to shank more,” added the 35 year old. “So maybe deep down I didn't always believe that I had it in the most important moments. But I think that's changing little by little, which I'm very happy about.”
