Tipsarevic Wins Season Opener In Chennai

Top seed Janko Tipsarevic began his 2012 ATP World Tour season at the Aircel Chennai Open Thursday with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over wild card Yuki Bhambri.
The World No. 9 converted all four of his break point opportunities, and won 80 per cent of his service points to take the second-round meeting in just over an hour.
Tipsarevic had his best career season in 2011, winning titles in Kuala Lumpur (d. Baghdatis) and Moscow (d. Troicki). He also competed at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals as an alternate, where he defeated World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
In the quarter-finals, the Serbian will face David Goffin. The Belgian wild card overcame a one set deficit to defeat Andreas Beck 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in two hours and 18 minutes.
Japanese qualifier Yuichi Sugita reached his first career ATP World Tour quarter-final, edging Yen-Hsun Lu 7-6(5), 6-4. The 235th-ranked Sugita will look to continue his run when he squares off against Nicolas Almagro.
